The next day Julius is at the grocery store. He feels sufficiently awkward, prowling the aisles in search of peanut butter and lettuce. He is one of the richest people in the city, and he still has to do his own grocery shopping. It seems unfit. Conversely, Julius would also feel odd if he had someone specifically employed to do food shopping for him. He's creeping around the fruit section in search of the perfect bunch of bananas when instead he spots a woman. Her features are so distinctive it takes him a mere second to recognize her. Uncommonly tall. Pale skin. Hair black and shiny as ink. It is the trumpet player. In a grocery store. J

The restaurant is large, sophisticated, and classy. Chandeliers hang from the high, domed ceiling, lights glitter and reflect off the gold-painted walls, and a live band is setting up on the stage at the far end of the room. The floorspace before the stage is cleared for a dance floor, and tables are situated in the remaining space in the room. On both sides of the stage there is a grand staircase that curls and meets the opposite staircase at a platform on the second floor of the building. He thinks, maybe, that if he wasn't always falling down, there would be a chance she would like him. He doesn't know how dearly wrong he is. She thinks the way he falls down is horrible – such terrible tragedy happens to him (he is all too unfortunate) – But the way he gets back up is honorable. His perseverance makes her love him, but he is so broken inside, every time she sees him fall, she is filled with pity; and there is nothing she hates more than feeling pity.
